Adoption/Fostering

CRITERIA

Adoption is ideal for those who can provide an INDOOR HOME for the bunny where they can interact as part of the family, just as a cat or dog does. All of our orphans are vaccinated, de-sexed, and many are also microchipped. They are sociable, affectionate and learning to use their litter trays. Rabbits are fragile and should be kept as free range house bunnies (when you are home). As a prey animal, they should be given priority indoors over predator pets such as cats or dogs.

We can only adopt or foster to those who can house the bunny INDOORS , so that the bunny is protected from myxomatosis and predators and can interact as part of the family. The bunny can have supervised time in a run outside on fine, mosquito free days.

We offer advise on indoor enclosures/hutches. Hutches should serve as a safe haven for the bunny and not as a prison.

If you are interested in adoption or fostering any of our bunny orphans, please download and complete the Questionnaire and email it back to us. Once we have received your form we will contact you. If you would like to discuss further, please contact Judi or Bryce on (03) 9751 1229. If you cannot provide indoor accommodation then please contact Keysborough Shelter and speak to Leigh about adoption. There is a high risk of bunnies contracting MYXOMATOSIS that are housed outdoors.

Adopt a Bunny

Adoption is ideal for those who can provide a permanent loving INDOOR home for one or more or our bunny orphans. All of our orphans are vaccinated, de-sexed, sociable, affectionate and gorgeous. Some are also miccrochipped. We provide training and advice in the keeping, health, feeding and behavioural requirements to ensure healthy and happy bunnies. We can also assist in selecting the right accommodation for your bunny.

Foster a Bunny

Fostering is for those who are able to assist by providing a temporary INDOOR home for our orphans. While you may not be in a position to commit to life time rabbit ownership, fostering a rabbit is a great way for you to provide a bunny a friendly and caring home until a permanent home becomes available. Rabbit foster parents are provided with housing, litter and hay trays and training and advice as required. Vet bills are also covered by Rabbit Run-Away Orphanage and when you go on holidays your foster bunny can be cared for at the orphanage.

If you are interested in fostering please complete the Questionnaire and either email or post it to us. We will then contact you to arrange a suitable time to organise the fostering.

CRITERIA...

Adoption of Fostering

* With the increase in mosquito populations after a wet winter, bunnies are at an increased risk of contracting myxomatosis.

* Adopted and fostered bunnies must be housed indoors at night or in other accommodation that is mosquito and weather proof.

* The bunnies have come from disadvantaged situations and also need to socialise with the family for hours each day.

* They are well on the way to being litter trained and indoor housing is required.
